The Orlando Sentinel is reporting there is a confirmation from Disney in an expansion to the Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This has been long rumored when plans were submitted earlier this year by Disney to add 26 waterfront cabins to the property.
Details at this time are hard for me to come by. I am not in any Disney media loop, so I am using our old friend Google to find additional information. It’s crickets out there. No timeline yet and pricing wouldn’t be for a long while.
I am a huge fan of Jim Hill. Several months ago on the Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill, I remember Jim talking about the upcoming expansion of the Wilderness Lodge. He speculated that the DVC expansion at Wilderness Lodge would not only be with the waterfront cabins, but would include conversion of floors of the main resort hotel into villa units. Why would Disney do this? Money! It is not secret that Disney Vacation Club props up the Theme Parks & Resorts division on the quarterly earnings. Converting regular hotel rooms to DVC is a profitable equation. We have done it now at several locations, the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Polynesian to name a couple.
I personally am excited to hear more about the expansion. We loved our stays at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and look forward to many future stays.
